About NAAM > History
National Archaeological and Anthropological Memory Management Foundation – NAAM - in Curacao, is a nonprofit organization committed to the conservation and identification of the cultural heritage, tangible and intangible, of Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba in a Caribbean perspective.
NAAM was founded by the Central Government of the Netherlands Antilles (1998) as the successor of the former AAINA (Archaeological- Anthropological Institute of the Netherlands Antilles).
Presenting itself as “more than a museum”, in the course of time NAAM managed to develop itself into an institute that labors on a wider level for the documentation, restoration and enrichment of the collective memory. This is why since 2008 the M in NAAM’s name no longer stands for “Museum” but for “Memory Management”
