Cooperation > Caribbean Cultural Heritage
The
Caribbean Cultural Heritage website is a joint initiative of the Bonaire Museum (Bonaire), the S.A.L. Mongui Maduro Library & Museum (Curacao) and NAAM (Curacao). The website is an online exhibition of each of the participating museum’s most valuable objects or treasures. The set-up phase of this website was sponsored by the
Mondriaan Foundation.
Platform
The website’s purpose is to link the museums and cultural heritage institutes of the Caribbean beyond fragmentation on geographical, cultural and linguistic barriers, and to display the cultural heritage from each island or nation. Museums or heritage institutes that are not located in the Caribbean but do own treasures of our region are also welcome to participate. The website is a platform where one can learn about and appreciate the colorful and rich variations of the Caribbean heritage. The ‘treasures’ presented on this website will certainly enlighten the collective memories in the region.
Criteria
In order to present a uniform offering, the website board has established a set of criteria, determining what makes an object a cultural treasure. These criteria include the ethical guidelines as set down by the ICOM (International Council of Museums).
